Features of Light and FAN controller

1. This Light and Fan controller has five channels. Out of these, the fifth no. channel is reserved for fan. Rest four channels may be used to connect 100 watt bulb, CFL lamp, LED light, night lamp, tube light, music system, mobile charger, power bank, TV, CD/DVD player, computer, laptop etc.

N.B: Please dot not connect directly the high power consuming loads like Air Conditioning(A.C.), Washing Machine, Refrigerator, Microwave Oven, Water Heater Geyser, Electric Iron etc. Of course these high power loads may be connected with the controller via 230V single phase contractor.

2. Each channel may be controlled by the infrared remote control.

3. This controller has a digital fan regulator having 10 steps from 0 to 9. Thus the speed of the fan can be changed linearly than the conventional fan regulator. The current step is shown in a seven segment display. So we can see it from greater distance. The speed of the fan can be changed by the remote control.

4. To install this light and fan controller it is not necessary to change the present wiring of home.

5. As this controller may be operated by the remote control thus there is no chance to get electric shock hazard from it. Thus it may be used by all persons specially children, aged persons or physically handicapped persons.

6. This light and fan controller consumes very small electric energy. Thus user may keep it ON in all time and there is no possibility of damages.

7. If the internal circuit of controller becomes faulty, the manual ON-OFF switches of the switch board works as usual. Thus this avoids the need of emergency repairing.

8. The operating range of the remote control is large (maximum 50 foot) and it has wide operating angle. As a result it is operated satisfactorily from different angle.

9. The user can keep the controller unit in OFF position when it needs not to use. This saves electric energy.

10. It has resume property. This means that it can remembers last switch position when power down occurs. Means you do not have to wake up and switch fan ON at night when Power comes back. When a.c. power is applied to the remote circuit, the loads those were ON during previous ON condition of remote circuit will be switched ON only and those were OFF will remain in OFF position. Suppose during power off (power down) of remote circuit, the load1 and fan was ON position with speed factor 5. Now when you will switch on (power come back) the remote circuit, only the load1 and fan will be ON with speed factor 5 which is same as previous ON condition of remote circuit.

11. The circuit has six LEDs. One is for power indicator of controller circuit and the rest five LEDs for five channels. The particular LED will glow when the respective channel is ON. This assists to understand that whether the corresponding channel is ON or OFF.

12. The controller has a buzzer that generates beep sound. The buzzer will give the sound when user try to increase or decrease the speed of fan after the reaching 9 (maximum) or 0 (zero) respectively. If buzzer sound is not required then user can keep it OFF using a ON/OFF switch.

13. The controller has a 10A fuse which protects the controller from short or overloading of any channel.

14. For normal operation of the circuit inside the controller requires 12 volts DC Supply. For this purpose a 12 volt adaptor is used from the outside of controller. If this adaptor damages then it is easily replaced by new one.

15. All components used in the circuit are easily available. No SMD components are used in the circuit. Thus it is easily reparable.

16. The price of the circuit is low comparing with other.

Installation method

1. Before the installation of light and fan controller unit it should necessary to study the connection diagram (figure 1).

                                                                                                    Figure 1

2. To install the light and fan controller unit it should select suitable position near the switch board.

3. To fix the controller on the wall there are four holes behind it. As per position of these holes it is necessary to mark four positions on the wall to drill. Then fix the screw in each hole. Now hang the controller on the screws.

4. Before opening the switch board it should be switched OFF main 230 volt a.c. supply voltage. Now open the switch board and identify the phase, neutral and earthing terminals. Connect these terminals with the phase, neutral and earthing terminals of controller.

5. It is necessary to see carefully the wiring of switch1 to which you want to connect the channel number 1. In case of right wiring, one end of switch is connected to phase and other end is connected to load. The other end of load is connected directly to the neutral terminal (figure 2). Out of the different wires coming out from the controller, one wire which is marked as 1 should be connected to the one end of the switch 1 where one end of load termimal is connected (X point in figure 3).

6. Similarly connect channels 2, 3 and 4 with switch2, switch3 and switch4 respectively.

7. The channel number five is fixed for fan. Before connection of this channel it is necessary to check the wiring of fan regulator present in switch board. For right wiring, phase terminal of 230 volt mains supply is connected in ON/OFF switch and other terminal of this switch is connected in one wire of fan regulator. The other wire of fan regulator is connected to fan. The remaining terminal of fan is connected to neutral point of mains supply (figure 4). Break the wire at point X as shown in figure 4. Joint the wire from regulator side (marked as X1 in figure 5) and the wire from controller which is marked as 5. Also the joint the wire from fan (marked as X2 in figure 5) and the wire from controller which is marked as 6.

8. Now close the switch board and fit it with the help of screws. Connect the 12 volt adaptor in the 230V socket present in the left side of the controller. Also connect the 12 volt DC jack of adaptor in the bottom side of controller. Now the controller is ready for operation.

9. It is also possible to install the controller in the switch board which has only ON/OFF switch for controlling the fan (has not Fan regulator). In this case, the remove the fan terminal which is connected to switch and joint wire from controller which is marked as 5. Connect the fan terminal to the wire of controller which is marked as 6. The other terminal of fan is connected to the neutral point (figure 7).

10. It is also possible to install this controller where there is no switch board. The connection diagram in such case is given below (figure 8).

Precautions for installation

1. During installation of fan and light controller it should be placed straight horizontally. For this the water marker may be used.

2. Before opening the switch board with which the controller will be connected it should be disconnected the mains 230 volt a.c. supply.

3. Before the connection of wires coming from controller with switch board, it is necessary to inspect the wiring of switch board. For right wiring the phase terminal of the main 230 volt is connected to load through an ON/OFF switch and the neutral terminal is connected directly to the Load (figure 2). In case of a wrong wiring where the phase terminal is connected directly to the load and neutral terminal is connected through ON/OFF switch, if user try to ON both of ON/OFF switch and any channel of controller then it may damage the controller. This is because when any channel of controller is ON then it provides 230V phase at its output terminal and this phase will come in contact with neutral terminal. This will lead short circuit(figure 9).

4. If the wiring of ON/OFF switch in the switch board is right but output terminal of any channel is connected to phase side instead of load side (figure 10) then it is not possible to OFF that channel by the remote control if it is ON previously by the ON/OFF. Of course the controller will not damage.

5. During wiring of any output terminal of controller is connected to the neutral line then when user attempt to ON that channel, controller may be damaged due to short circuit (figure 11). The right connection diagram is shown in figure 3.

How to operate the controller

1. Before applying power to the controller it is necessary to keep in OFF position of all ON/OFF switches (those are connected with controller) in the switch board. Of course if anyone forgets to OFF the switch(s) then the respective channel(s) will not be OFF by the remote. In this case the controller will not damage.

2. After this apply the mains power to the controller. Now press 1 button of remote control to ON the channel 1. If button 1 of remote control is pressed again then the controller will OFF that channel.

3. Similarly press 2, 3, 4 and 5 buttons of remote control to ON or OFF the cannel 2, 3, 4 or 5 respectively. To increase the speed of the of the channel press volume up key (INC) of remote control and to decrease the speed of fan press volume down key (DEC).

4. The controller has a buzzer which generates beep sound intermediately when user tries to increase the speed of the fan further after reaching its maximum value of 9. Similarly it also generates a beep sound when user tries to decrease the speed of the fan beyond 0. Sometime this beep sound may be annoying and to stop the buzzer sound user can OFF the buzzer using ON/OFF sliding switch situated left side of the controller.

Causes of malfunction of controller and solution

1. The controller may not work properly where electrical sparking is occurring continuously.

2. If a tube light having copper or aluminimum choke (except electronic choke) is connected with one channel of the controller, then during switching ON of the tube light, it generates spikes which may lead the controller for mal functioning. In this time the controller do not response by the remote control or push button switches in the front panel. Of course this phenomenon happens rarely and choke of the tube light is responsible for this fact. Good quality choke does not generate such situation. This problem may be solved easily. Switch OFF the controller a.c. supply and then switch ON the controller again. This will solve the above problem.

3. If the quality of the adaptor is not good then controller may malfunction. In this case the problem will be solved by switching OFF controller power and then switching ON the controller.

4. If someone faces with the problem like the push button switches of the controller are working properly but remote control is not working, then it should examine the remote control whether it is good or defective. To do this, switch ON the camera of a mobile phone and put the remote control in front of camera. Now press any key of remote control and observe on mobile screen. During pressing of any key if light is seen in mobile screen then the remote control is good condition. If no light is showing in screen then the remote control is defective. In this case replace the battery of remote control by new one. If till the problem exists then contact with manufacturer or nearest dealer.

5. If the 10A fused is open then the controller will not work. In this case connect the proper rating of fuse wire and then switch ON the controller power.

General precaution

1. The light and fan controller system should be installed by a person who has minimum knowledge on electric wiring.

2. During installation of controller with switch board it should be switched OFF the mains 230 volt supply.

3. During installation of controller with switch board it is suggested to connect all wires as per connection diagram. It should be identified the phase and neutral point of the supply correctly. Try to avoid the over confidence.

4. During heaving lightning the controller’s power should be switched OFF.

5. This light and fan controller is not water proof. Thus it should not come in contact with water.

6. It should not be opened the encloser of the controller because inside the controller circuit has 230 volt a.c. which is danger for electric shock.

7. If the controller does not work properly then it should not be contacted with third party. It is necessary to contact with manufacturer or nearest dearer.
